9th October 2009 Mt. Biking: Leucate-France Wind Direction: Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: 25 + Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny Max Speed: Distance Covered: After a mega trip through the mountains we arrive at La Franqui on the coast and as with Lake Garda,Tiree and now here the wind Gods have deserted me again L and there is no wind but sunny !!! After a great day by the sea we end up in the late evening camping by the shores of the Etang de Leucate with aload of pond sailers !!! but it is a mosquito nightmare and by 4 in the morning we have had enough of being bittern to death so we up and move to the camper park by the beach in Leucate Plage thinking we would move on up the coast to Gruissan then back to the mountains with no wind forecast for days L We are wroken by the friendly bagget seller and rain !!! and decide as we have to take the bikes off to fill the water tank we would go for a ride as the sun had come out and it was very warm J We head up the beach track towards the port stopping at a harbour full of mussel fisherman (which gives us the idea for moules and frites for dinner) and see an octopus in the channel.Then a look at the Etang again in search of flamingos,only to learn they have all gone back to Africa L We head back to the Plage and find a great restaurant with sea view and have a 3 course meal with wine for 16 euros each !!! Continue up to Leucate town passing 4 windsurfing shops on one roundabout,thats more than the whole of East Anglia !!! sadly all shut as is the whole of France at this time of year !!! Back to the van and a swim in the wavey med and watch the stand up paddle boarders.Return late afternoon to town to shop and visit windsurfing shops J which proves there must be a few about even if I don’t great to have ago !!! |
